Orzammar

Orzammar is the last great subterranean city of the dwarves, serving as the cultural and political heart of their civilisation beneath the Frostback Mountains.

History and Significance

Orzammar is one of the two remaining dwarven thaigs, having survived the relentless onslaught of the darkspawn for centuries. It is a massive, cavernous metropolis carved directly into the stone of the Frostback Mountains, functioning as the centre of dwarven politics, trade, and tradition. The city is governed by the Assembly, a body of noble houses that constantly vie for power and influence, often leading to deep-seated corruption and social stratification.

Role in the Blight

The city plays a critical role in the events of the Fifth Blight, as the Grey Wardens seek the support of the dwarven armies to combat the darkspawn threat. During this period, the city faces internal turmoil regarding the succession of the throne, a conflict that can be influenced by companions such as Oghren. The city's isolationist policies and rigid caste system often clash with the needs of the surface world, making it a pivotal location for those navigating the complex political landscape of Thedas.
