Ferelden
Ferelden is a rugged, independent kingdom located in the south-eastern region of the continent of Thedas, known for its fierce cultural pride and history of resistance against foreign occupation.
Ferelden was founded by the legendary hero King Calenhad Theirin after he united the warring teyrnirs of the land. The nation is defined by its harsh climate, vast wilderness, and a populace that values personal liberty and martial tradition. Unlike its neighbour, the Orlesian Empire, Ferelden maintains a distinct culture that often views outsiders with deep-seated suspicion, a sentiment heavily influenced by the brutal Orlesian occupation that lasted for nearly a century before the Fereldan rebellion.
Political Significance
The kingdom is governed by a monarch who must balance the interests of the nobility, known as the Landsmeet, and the common folk. The nation faced a catastrophic turning point during the Fifth Blight, an event that saw the rise of the darkspawn threat and the subsequent political upheaval involving figures such as Loghain Mac Tir and Alistair Theirin. During this period, the Grey Wardens played a critical role in rallying the fractured nation to prevent total annihilation.

Today, Ferelden remains a central power in Thedas, serving as a staging ground for many critical events involving the Inquisition and other major factions. Its unique geography, including the Brecilian Forest and the Frostback Mountains, continues to shape the strategic landscape for those navigating the complex political machinations of the continent.
