Rosie Cotton

Rosie Cotton was a hobbit of the Shire who became the wife of Samwise Gamgee and the matriarch of a large family in Hobbiton.

Rosie Cotton, often referred to as Rose, was the daughter of Tolman Cotton and a resident of the Shire. She was a long-time acquaintance of Samwise Gamgee, who held a deep affection for her throughout his travels. During the War of the Ring, while Samwise was away assisting Frodo Baggins on their quest to destroy the One Ring, Rosie remained in the Shire, eventually witnessing the occupation of the region by ruffians under the influence of Saruman.

Following the return of Samwise and his companions, including Meriadoc Brandybuck and Peregrin Took, the Shire was liberated. Samwise and Rosie were married in the year 1420 of the Shire Reckoning. They settled at Bag End, where they raised thirteen children. Rosie remained a central figure in Samwise's life, providing the stability and domestic happiness he sought after his experiences alongside figures such as Gandalf the Grey, Aragorn, Gimli, and Legolas Greenleaf.
