The F.I.R.M.

The F.I.R.M. is a clandestine division of the United States intelligence community that operates outside of official oversight to manage sensitive national security assets.

The F.I.R.M., an acronym for the Foreign Intelligence and Research Management division, serves as the primary antagonist organisation throughout the early history of the Airwolf programme. It is responsible for the original development of the high-tech tactical helicopter, which was stolen by its creator, Dr. Charles Henry Moffet, and subsequently recovered by Stringfellow Hawke.

Operational Scope

The organisation is characterised by its ruthless pursuit of power and its willingness to bypass government protocols to achieve its objectives. It frequently employs covert agents, such as Michael Coldsmith-Briggs III, known as Archangel, to manipulate individuals into performing dangerous missions. The F.I.R.M. maintains a complex relationship with Hawke, constantly attempting to reclaim the helicopter while simultaneously requiring his expertise to combat international threats.

  • Maintains secret facilities globally.
  • Operates with significant autonomy from the CIA.
  • Utilises advanced surveillance and tactical technology.

Despite its shadowy nature, the agency often positions itself as a necessary evil in the global intelligence landscape. Its internal politics and shifting allegiances often lead to conflict with those who possess the advanced weaponry they seek to control.
