Galactica 1980
Galactica 1980 is a science fiction television series that serves as a sequel to the original 1978 Battlestar Galactica, depicting the fleet's arrival at Earth thirty years after their departure from the Twelve Colonies.
Overview
Set three decades after the events of the original series, Galactica 1980 follows the Colonial fleet as they finally reach the planet Earth. Discovering that Earth is technologically inferior and unable to defend itself against the Cylons, the crew of the Battlestar Galactica must operate in secrecy to protect the planet while attempting to advance its scientific capabilities.
Production and Legacy
The series introduced new characters such as Commander Adama's grandson, Captain Troy, and Lieutenant Dillon. Despite its attempt to bring the narrative to a contemporary setting, the show faced significant budget constraints and scheduling challenges. It remains a notable, albeit divisive, chapter in the Battlestar Galactica franchise, often remembered for its departure from the space-faring tone of its predecessor.
