Battlestar Pegasus

The Battlestar Pegasus was a formidable warship of the Colonial Fleet, significantly newer, larger, and more powerful than the Battlestar Galactica itself. It was a Mercury-class battlestar, equipped with superior weapons, flight decks, and armour. Its survival of the devastating Cylon attack on the Twelve Colonies was largely due to its systems being offline for a major overhaul at the Scorpia Fleet Shipyards, preventing the Cylons from disabling it via networked systems.

Commanded by the ruthless Rear Admiral Helena Cain, the Pegasus operated independently for months after the Fall, adopting a brutal "survival at all costs" philosophy that contrasted sharply with Commander Adama's more humanistic approach on the Galactica. When the two battlestars eventually made contact, their differing ideologies led to significant tension and conflict within the fleet.

The Pegasus played a crucial role in several key engagements against the Cylons, including the destruction of a Cylon Resurrection Ship. Its ultimate fate came during the desperate rescue mission from New Caprica, where, under the command of then-Commander Lee Adama, it sacrificed itself by ramming two Cylon basestars, allowing the civilian fleet and the Galactica to escape. This act of self-sacrifice ensured the survival of humanity's remnants.
