Caprica

Caprica was one of the twelve human-colonised planets in the Cyrannus star system, originally settled by the tribe of Capricorn from Kobol. It rose to become the most prominent and influential of the Twelve Colonies, serving as the capital and the seat of the federal government of the United Colonies of Kobol. Renowned as a centre for culture, art, education, and technological advancement, Caprica was the wealthiest and most developed planet prior to the Cylon Wars.

The planet holds immense significance in the history of the Battlestar Galactica universe as the birthplace of the Cylons. The prequel series, "Caprica," set 58 years before the Fall of the Twelve Colonies, details the creation of the first sentient robotic lifeforms. Dr. Daniel Graystone, a wealthy technologist from Caprica City, was instrumental in their development, initially for military purposes, with his daughter Zoe Graystone's digital consciousness inadvertently playing a crucial role in their sentience and later their monotheistic religious beliefs.

During the devastating Cylon attack that initiated the Second Cylon War, Caprica, like the other colonies, was subjected to a brutal nuclear bombardment that annihilated the vast majority of its population. Following the initial assault, the planet was occupied by Cylon forces for approximately ten months, during which a human resistance movement emerged. Its destruction marked a pivotal moment, forcing the remaining human survivors to flee aboard a rag-tag fleet led by the Battlestar Galactica.
