Battlestar Galactica is a veteran Colonial warship that serves as the last bastion of humanity and the protector of the refugee fleet following the Cylon genocide.
History and Design
The Battlestar Galactica, designated BSG-75, is a Jupiter-class battlestar that served during the first Cylon War. Unlike newer vessels equipped with networked computer systems, the Galactica remained largely analogue, a design choice that ultimately saved the ship and its crew from the Cylon virus that disabled the rest of the Colonial Fleet during the surprise attack on the Twelve Colonies.
Role in the Fleet
Following the destruction of the colonies, the Galactica became the primary protector of the civilian fleet led by President Laura Roslin. Under the command of Commander William Adama, the ship serves as a mobile base of operations, housing thousands of survivors while fending off persistent Cylon pursuit. Its hangar decks, which launch Viper space superiority fighters and Raptor reconnaissance craft, remain essential to the survival of the human race as they search for the mythical planet Earth.
