According to the prophecy of the Oracle, this individual would return to the Matrix, harness its power, and ultimately bring an end to the war between humanity and the machines. The One is identified by their extraordinary control over the simulated environment, allowing them to perform feats such as superhuman speed, flight, and the ability to stop bullets in mid-air.

Historical Context

Throughout the history of the Matrix, there have been multiple iterations of the One, serving as a necessary component for the system's stability. While the machines view the One as a systemic anomaly that must be periodically re-integrated into the Source, the human resistance views the figure as a messianic saviour. Neo eventually fulfills this role by choosing to sacrifice himself to save both humanity and the machine world, thereby breaking the cycle of previous iterations.
