Deus Ex Machina
The Deus Ex Machina is the supreme governing intelligence of the Machine City that serves as the collective representative of the machine race during the conclusion of the human-machine war.
The Deus Ex Machina appears as a colossal, shifting construct of metallic faces in the Machine City. It functions as the ultimate authority within the machine hierarchy, possessing the power to command the entire collective consciousness of the machines. It is the entity Neo confronts when he travels to the source of the machine power to negotiate a truce.
Role in the War
During the final stages of the war, the Deus Ex Machina is responsible for the defense of the machine capital against the threat of Agent Smith, who has become a virus consuming both the Matrix and the machine world. When Neo offers to destroy Smith in exchange for peace between humanity and the machines, the Deus Ex Machina agrees to the terms, facilitating the end of the long-standing conflict between the two species.
