Agent Smith
Agent Smith is a primary antagonist within the Matrix simulation, serving as a sentient programme designed to maintain order before evolving into a self-replicating virus that threatens both the machine and human worlds.
Originally functioning as an Agent of the System, Smith was tasked with policing the simulated reality of the Matrix to eliminate human insurgents and rogue programmes. He possessed superhuman strength, speed, and the ability to manipulate the digital environment, typically appearing in a dark suit with earpieces and sunglasses. His primary objective was the destruction of Zion and the capture of Morpheus.
Following his initial defeat by Neo, Smith became a rogue programme detached from the control of the Deus Ex Machina. He developed the capacity to overwrite other programmes and human minds within the simulation, turning them into copies of himself. This unchecked proliferation eventually allowed him to threaten the stability of the entire machine infrastructure, forcing an alliance between Neo and the machines to facilitate his final deletion.
